First Wholly public flight - July 4, 1908 - Glenn H Curtiss flew more than a mile at Hammondsport NY in the AEA's June Bug, bringing him the Scientific American trophy. Fitted with wingtip ailerons, it also brought a warning from the Wrights about infringement of their patent.
